Who Is a Sworn Translator?
A sworn translator is a translator who has demonstrated proficiency in a foreign language to a public notary through official documents and is authorized to sign and stamp translations so they can be used for official purposes.
The main difference between an ordinary translator and a sworn translator is legal accountability. A sworn translator may bear legal and criminal liability for an inaccurate translation.
What Are the Requirements?
1. Be a citizen of the Republic of Türkiye or hold a Blue Card with a work permit.
2. Hold at least an undergraduate degree (a diploma is required).
3. Prove foreign-language proficiency with official evidence, such as a Translation and Interpreting degree, education abroad, or results from an official language examination.
4. Have a clean criminal record.
Applying for a Notary Oath Record
Applicants who meet the requirements apply to a notary through a translation provider they work with or have an agreement with, submitting the required documents. If the notary approves the documents, the applicant takes an oath and the notary issues an oath record, authorizing the translator to act.
